Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt's requirements by describing the book, explaining its influence, and commenting on its potential impact on others. However, the development of these points is limited. The explanation of how the book influenced you is somewhat vague, and the final request to the editor to 'remove the caste system' is not relevant to the task of contributing to a magazine article. The tone is inconsistent, shifting from a personal reflection to a formal petition. To improve, ensure that the content remains focused on the specific topic of the book's influence rather than shifting into a general social complaint.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter lacks clear paragraphing, which makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. While there is a basic attempt to structure the letter with a salutation and sign-off, the body of the text is a single, dense block. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'Dalit community' and 'caste system' without effective linking words to connect the sentences logically. To reach a higher band, you should use clear paragraph breaks for each of the three bullet points and employ a wider range of linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition'.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'Dalit community', 'caste system', and 'inequality' are used frequently, which restricts the range of expression. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'I’m totally influence to this book' (should be 'influenced by') and 'tolerate everyday those persons' (which is unclear). While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of precision and the reliance on basic vocabulary prevent a higher score. Expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive adjectives and varied verbs would significantly enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'who faces', 'They not give'), sentence structure (e.g., 'Dalit community who face these problems... the upper caste community who tolerate...'), and preposition usage. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb tenses.
