Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the book, explaining its influence, and discussing its potential impact on others. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For example, while you mention the book is about 'tiny change big results,' you do not elaborate on the core concepts or specific examples from the book. Similarly, the explanation of how it influenced you is vague, stating only that you 'changed alots of habits' without providing concrete details. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with specific examples or personal anecdotes to provide a more comprehensive response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'this book' and 'this is'. Some transitions between sentences are abrupt, making the flow feel slightly unnatural. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition') to connect your ideas more fluidly. Additionally, ensure that pronouns clearly refer back to their intended nouns to avoid ambiguity.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite basic and repetitive. You rely on simple phrasing, such as 'I want to inform you' and 'I am fond of reading'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'get appreciate' instead of 'receive appreciation' and 'intersecting' instead of 'interesting'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary and idiomatic expressions appropriate for a letter to an editor. Expanding your range of adjectives and verbs will help you express your thoughts with more nuance and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'i read the atomic habits' (capitalisation and article usage), 'my friend visited to me' (incorrect preposition), and 'this is become very intersecting' (incorrect verb tense). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and pluralisation, such as 'alots of habits' and 'these book'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors will significantly improve your score.
