Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am Grishma Patel writing a letter to share my positive feedback on the book which I read last week. And this book influenced me the most is ‘’The True Story of Women’’. These book is written by a famous writer Chetan Bhagat. He has written many books on real love stories however, these time he has written on one hardworking women who struggled a lot to achieve success in her life.
Firstly, when I went for shopping in the mall, I saw these book then I purchased it. I started reading from last Sunday and then I felt so impressed with story so I just finished it in just 4 days. I feel so influence from it because he has mentioned about the pain, toughness and struggle about that women’s life from her childhood to adulthood. Furthermore, he wrote about the growth from lower class to the upper class of her life. I really feel motivated and it also boost my confidence level.
Lastly, I would really happy if all other readers also read this book and influence by it. I hope your article helpful for every other people. Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Grishma Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: describing the book, explaining its influence, and discussing its potential impact on others. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the book's content is quite general, and the explanation of how it influenced you could be more detailed to fully satisfy the 'well-developed' criteria of higher bands. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the tone is slightly inconsistent for a formal letter to an editor. To improve, focus on expanding your ideas with more specific examples or personal reflections.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate the different requirements of the task. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', 'Lastly'). Additionally, some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, such as the jump from buying the book to reading it. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would help the flow of the text and lead to a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'motivated', 'confidence level', and 'struggled'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'I feel so influence from it' (should be 'influenced') and 'I would really happy' (missing 'be'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and collocations related to literature and personal growth.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms ('I am Grishma Patel writing' instead of 'I am writing'), subject-verb agreement ('These book is' instead of 'This book is'), and tense consistency. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. These errors occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that verb tenses are used correctly to describe past events versus current feelings.
