Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

I hope you are doing well. Today, I am writing as a happier reader of your latest article on ''THE BOOK THAT INFLUENCED ME MOST". While I am not a bookworm due to my hectic routine, It is very difficult for me to make time for reading, But your recent published book inspired me a lot, As the story kept me on sitting, while reading book I forgot my domestic chores. The story about ''THE LAST SERVIVAL '' a boy lost in jungle after a plane crashed, how he make struggles to be alive it really inspired me ,because some time we loose hope and become disappointed and take our lives 'blessing as granted .I kept this book as masterpiece, that influenced me most in life , and definitely, I would recommend my students to learn life lesson from it.

Thanks for this gratitude of including my name .

Your faithfully,

SABA

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You describe the book's plot, explain its influence on your perspective regarding life's challenges, and confirm its potential to influence others. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. The description of the book is brief, and the explanation of how it influenced you could be expanded with more specific detail to better engage the reader. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an editor, although the closing statement regarding the magazine including your name is slightly confusing in the context of the prompt. Overall, the task requirements are met, but the depth of content is basic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a basic structure, but it lacks clear paragraphing, which is essential for a formal letter. The ideas are presented in a single block, making the progression of thought feel somewhat rushed. While there are some cohesive devices used, such as 'While', 'because', and 'definitely', their usage is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward. The transition between the description of the book and the personal reflection is abrupt. To improve, you should separate the introduction, the body paragraphs (covering the plot and the influence), and the conclusion into distinct paragraphs to help the reader follow your argument more easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher bands. You use some basic errors in word choice, such as 'happier reader' (which is unnatural) and 'take our lives blessing as granted' (which is grammatically and lexically incorrect). Phrases like 'kept me on sitting' and 'domestic chores' are understandable but not entirely natural in this context. There is an attempt to use some descriptive language, but it is often hindered by spelling and collocation issues. Focusing on learning common collocations and refining your word choices will help improve your score significantly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('how he make struggles'), punctuation errors (misuse of commas and capitalization), and awkward phrasing ('your recent published book' instead of 'the book you recently published'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and punctuation would be a great next step.
