Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the book, explaining its influence, and discussing its potential impact on others. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, you mention the book helps people 'achieve goals' and 'convert worst situations into best,' but you do not provide a specific example or a title, which would have made your response more engaging and convincing. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to an editor, though it lacks the depth required for a higher band score. To improve, try to provide more concrete details about the book's content and specific personal anecdotes regarding its influence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'This book' and 'However' (implied), but the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as 'these articles' in the opening, which is confusing since you are writing about a book. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your pronouns clearly refer back to the nouns mentioned previously to create a smoother progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive and lacks precision. You frequently use simple phrases like 'very good experience' and 'good man.' There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'get attentions of people' instead of 'capture people's attention' and 'give us chance' instead of 'provide us with the opportunity.' While your meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated adjectives and collocations that are specific to the context of literature and personal development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'One of the best book' should be 'One of the best books'), incorrect article usage, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Which i never seen before...'). You rely mostly on simple sentence structures, and your attempts at complex sentences often contain errors, such as 'People can be easily get out of form their hard times.' To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically verb tenses and pluralisation, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
