Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to give my contribution for your upcoming article regarding one of your book that I recently completed reading. That book is "The Key To Success". After reading this book, it gave me the proper flow that helped me to achieve my goals that I was struggling to complete in my life.
The book contains many ideas on how to turn our struggling life into an achievable success. It influences anyone who wants to make their life succeed and the one who doesn't know how to make it easier to follow their goals.
Before reading this book, I was not able to know what my weaknesses are and why I am struggling while giving my best. But, after I started reading this book, it changed my thinking and boosted my confidence heavily. Now, I am able to work on my weak areas in my lifestyle as well as in my career.
I would always recommend this book to a person who wants to achieve something in their life. And, I also want to thank you for writing this book.
Faithfully,
Parth

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the book, explaining its influence, and discussing its potential impact on others. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the book 'The Key To Success', you do not provide specific examples of the ideas contained within it, which would have made your response more engaging and fully developed. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an editor, and you have maintained a clear focus throughout the piece. To reach a higher band, aim to provide more concrete details about the book's content rather than general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'After reading this book' and 'Before reading this book' to sequence your ideas. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more sophisticated. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disconnected. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly, ensuring that the progression of your argument feels natural rather than list-like.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'struggling', 'achievable success', and 'boosted my confidence'. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision. For example, phrases like 'make their life succeed' are slightly unnatural. You rely on common, everyday words rather than attempting more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions that would demonstrate a higher level of lexical control. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and to add nuance to your descriptions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'one of your book' (should be 'books') and 'the one who doesn't know' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading your work to catch these small errors and try to incorporate more varied complex sentence structures to show greater grammatical flexibility.
