Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Madam,

Hope you are feeling good. I want to express my interest the article published regarding ' The book that influenced me most'. So I am very enthusiastic to tell you about the book Peer_ kamil by Umaira Ahmed. Sometimes I thought that this book influenced me a lot because of its overall theme about the life and the concept she wrote about Almightyw. This book is about the ecstasy of anything in life. A question is what is next to Ecstasy by the author is to force the reader to search the answer of this question in their lives. In this book, author claims that not only the believer of Allah reaching the point where someone feels that Allah is everywhere. But sometimes even those people also a believer of Allah which are not religious background. Author explained everything in the light of Quran verses. So this thing fascinated me a lot. This book would be likely to influence other people as well because of the nature of that book. Everyone should read this book at least one time in life.

So that's from my side hope you got it.

Thanks a lot a

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task. You described the book, explained its influence, and provided a recommendation. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how the book influenced you is a bit vague, relying on general statements like 'fascinated me a lot' rather than specific personal examples. To improve, try to elaborate on the 'ecstasy' concept or provide a concrete example of how your perspective shifted after reading. The tone is generally appropriate for a magazine contribution, though the closing is slightly informal.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the book's content, its influence, and finally a recommendation. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'In this book' and 'So this thing' are used frequently, which limits the flow. Paragraphing is also an issue; the entire body of the letter is presented as one block of text. Breaking the response into distinct paragraphs for each bullet point would significantly improve the structure and readability of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'enthusiastic', 'ecstasy', and 'fascinated'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'feeling good' (instead of 'doing well') and 'not religious background' (instead of 'non-religious background'). Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation, such as 'Almightyw'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on more precise collocations and checking for spelling accuracy will help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the article', 'the author'), verb tenses ('Sometimes I thought'), and sentence fragments ('A question is what is next...'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'not only the believer of Allah reaching the point'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed with correct punctuation and conjunctions to avoid run-on or fragmented thoughts.
