Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to tell you about the book ' 100 places to visit in our life' that I read very recently and this is a travel books published by 'national geography' in 2015 explaining every details about several places with multiple colorful images and travel itenaries which inspired me to travel a lot.

I received many valuable information such as best time in a year to visit , cost analysis and safety about several places in this particular book which are already in my bucket list was really helpful. Moreover, I got influenced by this book and booked a tour to Masai mara in Kenya in the October 2026.

In addition, I would recommend this book to anyone who would likes to travel, because it will be great source to get data about several places and saves a plethora of their time.

Thank you giving attention to this matter and I hope these information will be helpful for your article.

Yours faithfully,

Jithu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You described the book, explained its influence on your travel plans, and provided a recommendation for others. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how the book influenced you is quite brief, focusing only on a single trip to Kenya. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' with more descriptive detail. The tone is appropriate for a magazine contribution, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'because', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the sentence structure within paragraphs could be more varied to improve the overall progression. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences are slightly run-on, which affects the smoothness of the reading experience.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'itineraries', 'bucket list', and 'plethora'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'explaining every details' (should be 'every detail') and 'received many valuable information' (information is uncountable). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'this is a travel books' (subject-verb agreement), 'anyone who would likes to travel' (incorrect verb form), and 'Thank you giving attention' (missing preposition 'for'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around punctuation marks. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band, as the control over complex structures is not yet consistent.
