Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this mail in response to your article called 'The book that influenced me most'. Through this mail I would like to share my story and contribute to the book. My name is Navdeep and I am frequent reader of your publication. I love reading your prints specially regarding on Psychology and Human Behaviour. One of my favorite book is 'How to change your perspective', which was published last year.
This book 'How to change your perspective' was about how a person can see and interpretate things from a different angle. Furthermore, sfter reading this book I went to a state where I stopped viewing things normally. This book really helped me to see things from really different perspective. I was really shocked to learn about the dynamics as well. In short, how fast things can change.
Similarely, I am confident many people have felt the same way as I did. The statements and the real life examples that were mentioned, makes this book a deep psyhological thriller. This type of genre is liked by very selected individuals, but I am sure who so ever have read this book completely must have influnced by this story.
Your sincerely,
Navdeep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: describing the book, explaining its influence, and discussing its potential impact on others. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, your description of the book's content is vague, using phrases like 'see and interpretate things from a different angle' without providing concrete examples of the concepts discussed. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details about the book's content and a more nuanced explanation of how it changed your personal outlook. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an editor, and the purpose is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'In short' to link your thoughts. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Through this mail' and 'Similarely'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the book's description and its influence could be smoother. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring they are used in the correct context will help improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally distract the reader. For example, you use 'interpretate' (should be 'interpret'), 'prints' (should be 'publications' or 'articles'), and 'psyhological' (spelling error). You also use 'very selected individuals' which is not a natural collocation. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'dynamics' and 'genre', the overall range is somewhat limited. Focusing on accurate spelling and learning common collocations will significantly enhance your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I am frequent reader' (missing article), 'One of my favorite book' (should be plural 'books'), and 'must have influnced' (should be passive 'must have been influenced'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure is sometimes repetitive. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the overall accuracy score.
