Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to give you brief feedback about your recent magazine called 'The Journey to the Pharmacist'. This magazine interested me the most, as I completed 30 pages in a single day.
This book motivates people who are working in the healthcare field to provide excellent care to patients and ensure patient safety, especially pharmacists. It provides a variety of examples of real-life scenarios, which encourages healthcare workers to bring top-notch services and suggestions.
Since I am on a journey to become a registered pharmacist in Canada, this book has influenced me for multiple reasons. For example, it provides me with knowledge about the Canadian rules and regulations regarding the healthcare system. Moreover, it caters for different styles of looking for references about significant medications, such as their interactions, side effects, and benefits.
According to me, this book would definitely help people who currently work in the healthcare field. It will help them to implement various medical devices and foster a smoother process.
I hope this feedback helps you to include it in the upcoming article.
Yours faithfully,
Aditya Patel

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You described the book's content, explained its personal influence regarding your career path in Canada, and provided a logical opinion on its potential impact on others. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an editor. To reach a higher band, ensure that the description of the book's content is slightly more detailed; while you mention it covers 'real-life scenarios,' providing a specific example of one such scenario would have further developed your ideas and strengthened the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the prompt. You use cohesive devices such as 'For example,' 'Moreover,' and 'Since I am,' which help the reader follow your argument. However, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly abrupt. Using more varied linking phrases or ensuring a smoother flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'healthcare field,' 'regulations,' and 'interactions' correctly. There are some minor issues with collocation, such as 'give you brief feedback about your recent magazine,' which sounds slightly unnatural; 'share my thoughts on' or 'write to you regarding' would be more idiomatic. You attempt to use less common vocabulary, but some phrasing remains somewhat basic. Expanding your range of collocations and using more precise adjectives would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, and your meaning is consistently clear. There are some minor grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'According to me,' which is better expressed as 'In my opinion,' and 'caters for different styles of looking for references,' which is slightly awkward. While there are occasional errors, they do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, while maintaining the high level of accuracy you currently display.
