Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to you about the book that influenced me the most like i can say that it changed my life. The name of the book is Naruto. This book is the story about the character of a person who worked hard to achieve his goal to become leader of his village (Hukagi).

In the beginning of his childhood, Naruto was ignored by his whole village and everybody underestimated him at every stage of his life for example, nobody wants to play with him because a nine tailed beast is sealed inside him at his birth. this book is motivated me everytime because Naruto worked hard to make friends, complete his missions to become a best shinobi and in the end he become the best Hukagi and he achieve his goal with fully dedication. Also, he become an inspiration person to everybody because he never gave up.

I believe that this book more likely to influence people because it motivates and best example to never gave up on anything. It influence that you can achieve your goals in your life with hard work weather its impossible to achieve.

Thanks and regards,

Lovepreet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly identify the book, explain its plot, describe its influence on you, and provide a rationale for why it would influence others. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how it influenced you is repetitive, focusing primarily on the concept of 'not giving up'. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the specific personal changes or lessons learned in more detail. The tone is appropriate for a magazine contribution, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. You rely heavily on simple conjunctions like 'and' or 'also' to connect ideas. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words or transition phrases that would help the flow between sentences and paragraphs. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the plot summary and the personal impact. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices would significantly enhance the readability of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'underestimated', 'dedication', and 'inspiration'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of word-choice errors, such as 'inspiration person' instead of 'inspirational person' and 'weather' instead of 'whether'. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more precise adjectives and collocations. The repetition of basic vocabulary, such as 'book' and 'hard work', suggests a need for a wider range of synonyms to demonstrate greater lexical flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Issues include incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'he become' instead of 'he became'), missing articles, and punctuation errors. For example, 'like i can say that it changed my life' is informal and grammatically weak. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would be a great next step for your development.
