Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

With great appreciation, i would like to share my thoughts regarding the book, i read recently and that influenced me.

It was about the leadership qualities of a fomous founder who changed the map of the world by introducing a separate state. The leader was so patriotic, enthusiastic and determinant as he changed the future of various people. His lifestyle is also presented in a museum to appreciate him.

This book explains that a person from a middle class family was able to get higher education by sacrificing the activities that were enjoyed by children of his age. Then he faced the cruel leaders braverly and appeared as a kind man for the people who were suffering. His role in freedom is remarkable.

I would like to seeing the popularity of this book as it could influence the people to adopt transferable skills that are helpful in changing the life of the public.

Regards.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully mention that the book was about a patriotic founder of a state, explain how his early life and struggles influenced you to appreciate his determination and kindness, and briefly touch on how it could influence others to adopt transferable skills. While the details remain somewhat general and lack specific titles or names—such as referring simply to 'a fomous founder' rather than a named historical figure—all parts of the task are adequately addressed. The tone is appropriate for a magazine letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. This aligns well with the requirements for a Band 6.0 performance, where all parts of the task are addressed, though some ideas remain slightly under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical progression from describing the book's subject to explaining its personal influence and finally discussing its potential impact on others. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct ideas, though some paragraphs are quite brief. Cohesive devices are occasionally mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Then he faced the cruel leaders braverly' and 'I would like to seeing the popularity of this book'. Referencing is generally clear, but transitional links between sentences could be smoother to enhance the flow of the narrative. Overall, the structure meets the criteria for Band 6.0, featuring a logical overall flow despite some mechanical cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts to use less common items such as 'patriotic', 'enthusiastic', 'determinant', and 'transferable skills'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that detract from precision, including 'fomous' instead of famous, 'braverly' instead of bravely, and the grammatical error 'like to seeing'. Words such as 'fomous' and 'determinant' (used where 'determined' was intended) show some limitation in control over lexical forms. Nevertheless, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message without causing major misunderstandings, placing this squarely at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'It was about the leadership qualities of a fomous founder who changed the map of the world by introducing a separate state.' There are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, including lowercase 'i', capitalization issues, incorrect article usage in 'the book, i read recently', and the awkward structure 'I would like to seeing the popularity of this book'. These errors occur regularly but rarely impede overall communication. Because you demonstrate a basic control of complex structures alongside frequent minor errors, your writing fits the Band 5.5 descriptor.
