Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing about the " magazine article contributions call" that you advertised on the internet.
First, I would like to express my gratitude for providing your magazine's readers an opportunity to write something that can be essential to others. The magazine covers various educational and entertaining topics, from health to travel. The book that has captured my attention is called Women's Health. It particularly tackle women's well-being, which consequently raise awareness on different diseases. Additionally, it provides helpful tips on how to have a healthy lifestyle. For instance, there is a science-backed discussion on the squid's ink health benefits, such as protection from certain types of diseases.
Moreover, the article on Women's Health is something that I value, mainly because it widens my knowledge. By reading the book, I can already think of ways on how to apply everything that I learned so that I can improve my health. Furthermore, it taught me that being healthy is not synonymous to luxury where only affluent people can afford to have one. For example, eating roots crops, which is not considered expensive, is something that can assist a person dealing with immune system issues.
I strongly believe that the book can have a posititive impact to other people as well. This is due to the fact that there are incraesing number of people who are getting sick because of what they are eating. For example, ultra-processed foods that is not good for their physical and mental health.

Kind regards,
Elisa

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The student successfully covers all parts of the prompt. The letter begins appropriately and addresses the magazine's call for contributions. The writer describes the book 'Women's Health' and explains what it is about by mentioning its focus on well-being and diseases. Furthermore, the impact of the book is clearly explained, such as widening knowledge and teaching that health is not a luxury. Finally, the student expresses whether it would be likely to influence other people by discussing the rise in sickness due to poor eating habits. Although the book chosen is actually a magazine rather than a traditional book, the prompt's requirements are fully and adequately satisfied within the context of a reader contribution. Therefore, the response aligns well with the Band 7 requirements for task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear progression of ideas from introduction to description, influence, and future impact. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as the description of the book in the second paragraph and its personal influence in the third. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well, with transitional phrases like 'First', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' guiding the reader. However, some referencing and cohesive links are slightly mechanical or repetitive, placing the response firmly at Band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task with some attempts at less common items, such as 'synonymous', 'affluent', and 'science-backed'. There are, however, some lexical inaccuracies and collocation issues, such as writing 'tackle' instead of 'tackles', 'raise awareness' instead of 'raises awareness', and 'posititive' with a spelling error. Despite these minor flaws, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication, representing solid Band 6 performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'This is due to the fact that there are increasing numbers...' There are several grammatical errors present, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('It particularly tackle', 'foods that is not good'), spelling errors like 'incraesing', and a missing article in 'through this number'. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout, justifying a Band 6 score.
