Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
With reference to your open invitation in your last article, I am writing to share my view of a book that has influenced me most.
The book I have read recently is Quran. This is the holy scripture of religion Islam, bestowed on the prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The book is about the basics of religion and covers social, ethical and economical aspects of human life. It narrates many of the real time incidents of the prophet's time and readers extract lessons out of those incidents easily.
Its ethical teachings have paved my morality grounds. Further, It has helped to understand the purpose of life and the concept of life after death. It has beautifully persribed how the life is a test, and individuals would be judged at the judgment day based on the charactor they showed in the life. Additionally, it signify the importance of basic human rights, it clearly mentions that all human being are created equal; no race or individual has supirority based due to its colour or race.
Therefore, being the morality and spirituality at the core of its teachings, it would help readers to bring a purpose and peace into their busy life schedules. It will also create a harmony among societies as it manifest a very basic and practical apporach to human rights.
Arguably, there would be multiple other areas of the life it can impact, I have just mentioned some of those that have influenced me. Should you require a copy of this to study on your end, please write me back and I will send you a printed version.
Your faithfully,
Muhammad Waqass

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all bullet points outlined in the prompt. You begin by properly introducing the book ('Quran') and describing what it is about, noting its focus on social, ethical, and economic aspects. You clearly explain how the book influenced you by stating how its ethical teachings shaped your morality and helped you understand the purpose of life. Furthermore, you address whether it would influence other people by suggesting it would help readers bring peace and purpose into their lives and create societal harmony. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the tone is appropriate for a magazine editor. Although some ideas could be slightly more fully extended for a higher band, all parts of the task are appropriately addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the prompt: introduction, book description, personal influence, potential influence on others, and a concluding sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'Further', 'Additionally', 'Therefore', and 'Arguably' are used to connect ideas, though referencing and transitions are occasionally a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, guiding the reader smoothly through the narrative.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate to good range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'scripture', 'bestowed', 'morality grounds', and 'practical approach'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'persribed' instead of 'prescribed', 'charactor' instead of 'character', 'signify' instead of 'signifies', and 'supirority' instead of 'superiority'. Despite these spelling and lexical errors, communication is not impeded, and the intended meaning remains clear throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar. You successfully use subordinate clauses and conditional structures, such as 'Should you require a copy of this to study on your end...'. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips present, such as 'how the life is a test' (unnecessary article), 'individuals would be judged at the judgment day' (preposition choice), and 'being the morality and spirituality at the core' (awkward phrasing). While these errors occur, they do not impede overall communication.
