Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, covering what the book was about, how it influenced the writer, and its potential impact on others. A clear purpose and tone are maintained throughout. The ideas are extended and supported well, such as explaining how setting goals and managing time improved the writer's academic and professional life. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalize in places, which prevents the response from reaching the highest bands. The main bullet points are all effectively expanded with relevant details, demonstrating a strong understanding of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response presents a clear overall arrangement with logical organization and progression throughout. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body points covering the prompt requirements, and the conclusion. While the cohesion is generally clear, some cohesive devices and referencing feel slightly mechanical or are omitted where they could enhance flow, such as between the sentences describing the book's contents. To reach the next level, the connections between sentences could be made more subtle and fluid, ensuring that the relationships between ideas are always seamless.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common items, such as 'industriousness' and 'consistent efforts', which demonstrate a reasonable lexical scope. However, there are some word-choice and word-form errors that slightly affect precision, such as 'is mainly focus on' instead of 'focuses on', and 'could positive influence' instead of 'could positively influence'. These minor slips do not impede communication and reflect a typical performance at this band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar and sentence structure. There are instances of successful complex structures, but several noticeable errors persist, such as 'This book is encouraged me' and 'i started to managing time', as well as lowercase 'i'. Punctuation and article errors also occur. These errors represent a mix of error-free sentences and frequent minor mistakes, which occasionally catch the reader's attention but rarely impede overall communication.
