Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Madam,
I want to share my contribution to your magazine under the article 'The book that influenced me most'. I recently read a book by an author named Dheeraj C. He named the book Chumbak. It is based on five nuclear families living in a society. They are well educated and wealthy. Their bond is like members of a single family, everyone cares for each other in every aspect.
The title of the book itself explains the concept that these families are attached with each other like a chumbak. Everyone loves and enjoy hanging out. Among these there is an aged couple, they son lives in abroad so they both are alone in their family. Rest of the couples are quite young, and treats old couple like their parents.Their inseparable bond, love, care influenced me alot. This gives a hope to love and stand up for the people around us.
According to me this book would really influence other people to interact with their neighbours, create a social circle where we can enjoy without fear of being judged. This is a requirement of today's world because people are more likely to be introvert and enjoy being alone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three points: it describes the novel’s close-knit group of families, explains that their care and connection inspired you, and considers how readers might respond. The influence is made clear in “This gives a hope to love and stand up for the people around us,” while the final paragraph links the book to building neighbourly relationships. These relevant details and explanations support a clear response throughout. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain more specifically what the characters do that demonstrates their bond, and give a more qualified account of who might be influenced and why; the claim that people today are “more likely to be introvert” is broad. A more conventional opening and a brief closing would also make the contribution feel more complete as a letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: you introduce the book, describe its characters and theme, then explain its personal and wider influence. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “According to me” signal the move to your final point. This gives the letter a coherent overall progression. However, some connections within the second paragraph are abrupt, particularly the shift from the families’ closeness to the elderly couple’s situation. The reference in “Among these” is also not fully clear, and the long sentence beginning “Rest of the couples” contains several ideas that would be easier to follow if divided. Use clearer transitions and references, and add a closing line to complete the letter’s structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range to describe the book and its effect, including “nuclear families,” “inseparable bond,” “social circle,” and “being judged.” These choices communicate the central theme and show some willingness to use more specific vocabulary. At times, however, word choice and collocation are inaccurate or repetitive: “attached with each other” is not natural in this context, and “in every aspect” is vague. There are also spelling or form issues such as “alot” and “introvert” where a plural noun is needed. Aim for more precise expressions and check common word partnerships. For example, describe the families as “closely connected” and say the book “inspired me to care for those around me.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes both simple statements and longer sentences, for example the description of the families and the explanation of the book’s influence. Meaning remains clear overall, but some grammatical errors occur in verb agreement, articles, and sentence construction. In “everyone loves and enjoy,” the verb should agree with “everyone”; “they son lives” needs a possessive form; and “the rest of the couples … treats” has a plural subject requiring a plural verb. The sentence “Among these there is an aged couple, they son lives in abroad” also joins clauses awkwardly. Review subject–verb agreement and possessives, and separate or connect clauses with appropriate punctuation. More accurate control of these patterns would make the varied sentence forms easier to read.
