Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to contribute for an article called ' The book that influenced me most ', which is a book called "truth" about a well-known leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
This book is about to survive different kinds of challenges people facing during everyday life. The book described a life journey of person who grew up in small family and become a country's president through its dedications towards work, helped the community during challenging period and being honest to expand country's growth and popularity.
After reading this book, I would be more aware about my nation and for its population. Earlier, I was thinking about myself for everything what I achieved rather than thinking about people who really need it. Moreover, this book helps me to become independent and survive against any difficult situations.
I believe this book would be beneficial for other people who want to study it and get the inner knowledge of the story. I think that in recent time with overuse of technology and other social media, people are forget their everyday goal and commitments and reading this book would be best possible solution to get those thing back in their mind.
I hope my contribution help you.
Yours sincerely,
Riya khan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three bullet points: you identify the book and its subject, explain that it made you more aware of your country and other people, and say it could benefit readers. The personal contrast between focusing on your own achievements and considering people in need gives the influence some relevance. However, the description of Patel’s life and the book’s message is difficult to follow in places, and the influence on other readers is stated broadly rather than supported with a specific example. Clarify what the book teaches and show how another reader might apply that lesson. The letter’s purpose and closing are appropriate, but a more precise account would develop the ideas more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, separate paragraphs describing the book and its effect, a paragraph about other readers, and a closing. This makes the main points easy to locate. You also use linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “I believe” to connect ideas. Some connections are less smooth, however: the opening sentence combines the contribution, article title, and book identification awkwardly, while the final paragraph moves from the book’s potential influence to technology and social media without clearly explaining the link. The reference in “get those thing back” is also not fully clear. Use more direct transitions and make each paragraph’s central point explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “challenges,” “independent,” “commitments,” and “beneficial,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “life journey” and “inner knowledge,” though these are not always natural or precise in context. Several word choices and collocations weaken clarity: “contribute for an article,” “a country’s president,” and “expand country’s growth and popularity” do not express the intended ideas accurately. Aim for natural combinations such as contributing to an article, becoming a national leader, and supporting the country’s development. More precise vocabulary would help you explain the book’s lessons and influence without relying on broad phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the paragraphs communicate the main ideas despite some grammatical errors. For example, “After reading this book, I would be more aware…” shows an attempt to express a result, while the final paragraph uses a longer sentence to explain your view. Some verb-form and agreement errors remain, including “people facing,” “become a country’s president,” “people are forget,” and “I hope my contribution help you.” Articles and sentence construction also need attention, as in “a life journey of person.” Review subject–verb agreement, tense consistency, and infinitive or participle forms, and break up long sentences when their structure becomes difficult to control. These changes would make your meaning more consistently clear.
