Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writting to contribute to your upcoming magazine article titled " the book that influenced me most." The book that has profoundly e psy chology imapacted my perspectite and daily life is Atomic Habbits by James Clear. It is a comprehensie and practical guide that explores how timing, everyday changes can compound into remarkable long-term results, Breaking down psycohlogy and science of human habbit foramation.

This book completely transformed my routine and mind set. Instead of focusing on over whelming, unrealstic goals, I learned to concentrate on small , increarmental micro-improvements. It taught me that consistency matters far more than sporadic intensty helping me build sustainable professional and personsal habits.

I firmly belive this book would be equally likely to influence other people. Its highly actionable strategies and relate able examples make self-development feel entirely achievable rather than daunting, offering pro found, universal value to even strving for positive change.

Yours faithfully,

Satpal Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three points clearly: you identify Atomic Habits, summarise its focus on small changes and long-term results, explain how it changed your routines, and say why others could benefit. The personal impact is supported with a specific contrast between pursuing “unrealistic goals” and making “small, incremental micro-improvements.” Your position is clear throughout, and the letter has an appropriate opening and closing. The final point is persuasive but somewhat general: “universal value” and “positive change” would be stronger if you named a particular group of readers or gave a concrete example of how they might apply the book’s advice. This balance of complete coverage and clear development, with some scope to extend the final idea, fits the response well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

The letter is organised in a clear sequence: introduction and book summary, personal influence, then the likely effect on other readers. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and links such as “Instead of” and “It taught me” make the relationship between ideas clear. The progression is logical and the letter format is appropriate. Some connections within sentences could be smoother, particularly in the book description, where the shift from “long-term results” to “Breaking down” feels abrupt and the latter phrase is not integrated into a complete sentence. The final paragraph also moves quickly from strategies to examples and then to a broad claim. More deliberate linking and a clearer sentence structure in these places would make the cohesion more consistently polished.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You show an adequate range and make useful attempts at more specific vocabulary, including “profoundly impacted,” “long-term results,” “sustainable habits,” and “actionable strategies.” These choices suit the topic and help convey both the book’s content and its effect on you. However, several spelling errors and inaccurate or awkward word choices reduce precision, for example “writting,” “Habbits,” “relate able,” and “strving.” The phrase “how timing, everyday changes can compound” is also unclear, and “professional and personal habits” is less natural than a more precise description of the habits you developed. Proofread spelling carefully and check collocations and word forms so that your ambitious vocabulary communicates your ideas accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of sentence forms, including the complex contrast “Instead of focusing on …, I learned to concentrate on …” and the sentence explaining that consistency helped you build habits. Most ideas remain understandable, and the paragraphing gives the response a clear grammatical framework. Some errors in sentence construction and punctuation are present. In “It is a comprehensive and practical guide …, Breaking down …,” the participle phrase is not attached smoothly to the main clause; the comma and capital letter also make the connection unclear. The sentence beginning “Its highly actionable strategies” would benefit from clearer punctuation around its explanatory phrases. Aim to make each sentence’s main clause complete and use commas to show relationships between clauses accurately.
