Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to inform you that I recently encountered your advertisement in one of the magazines for ' The book that influenced me most'.

In particular, I am fascinated by a well-known book published specifically on a famous singer 'Sidhu Moosewala'. The name of the book is 'Legends Never Die'. Author described the whole journey in a systematic manner which anybody can relate easily.

This book taught me that hardwork always pays off. For instance, the way Moosewala started his musical life as a lyricist, later on received huge appreciation for his work then he launched his own album influenced me that if we have a talent, nobody can stop us to achieve our goals.

I believe this book ultimately influence others because the motivation, dedication and patience Sidhu showed toward his work is highly commendable. I hope you could connect with this story and I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Vishal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three requested points: it identifies the book as *Legends Never Die*, summarises Moosewala’s career, explains the lesson you took from it, and says why it could motivate other readers. The personal example about his progression from lyricist to album artist helps make your influence clear. However, the book’s subject and content are described only briefly, and the claim that “nobody can stop us to achieve our goals” is broad rather than specifically connected to details from the book. The prediction about its effect on others is also general. Develop these points with one or two more precise details, and use the requested opening, “Dear Sir or Madam,” to match the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, a paragraph introducing the book, an explanation of its personal impact, and a closing that considers other readers. Connectors such as “In particular” and “For instance” help show how the ideas relate, and the progression is easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger control. However, the opening sentence is somewhat detached from the book itself, and the long sentence beginning “For instance” combines several stages of Moosewala’s career with your reaction, making the relationship between them less clear. Break that sentence into shorter units and use references such as “this account” to link the book’s content directly to your conclusions.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including “journey,” “appreciation,” “dedication,” and “commendable.” These choices communicate the book’s inspirational effect, and the reader can understand your main points. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “I am writing to inform you” and “I look forward to hearing from you.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “published specifically on” does not clearly express the book’s subject, while “launched his own album” and “influenced me that” are not natural combinations. “Hardwork” should be written as two words. Aim for precise, idiomatic phrases rather than formal-sounding wording that does not fit the meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response includes both straightforward sentences and attempts at more complex structures, particularly the sentence explaining how Moosewala’s career influenced you. Most of the meaning remains clear, and the letter’s basic sentence patterns are controlled. Some grammatical errors persist, especially with verb forms and agreement: “Author described” needs an article, “this book ultimately influence others” needs a matching verb form, and “the way … started … received … then he launched … influenced me” does not maintain a clear grammatical structure. The sentence beginning “For instance” would be clearer if divided and rebuilt with a consistent subject and tense. Check articles and subject–verb agreement, and make sure each clause has a clear subject and verb.
