Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify relevant reasons for staying near one’s birthplace, including family support, learning from parents, cultural ties and opportunities to continue a family business. You also begin to discuss disadvantages, especially limited facilities and moving for children’s education. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the advantages and disadvantages are not clearly separated or fully explained, and the final sentence is unfinished, so the second part of the discussion is especially limited. The opening says you will discuss “both views,” but does not establish a clear overall position. The response is also 51 words below the required minimum, which leaves too little space to develop examples and explain consequences. Extend each main idea with a specific example and complete the discussion of disadvantages.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction and two body paragraphs, and signposts such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “However” help indicate the intended direction. However, progression is difficult to follow because several points are placed together without clear explanation of how they connect. For example, the discussion moves from moral values to cultural ties and then business opportunities in quick succession. The second paragraph begins a contrast but ends mid-sentence, leaving the argument incomplete. Some linking expressions are also used mechanically or inaccurately, such as “albeit” at the start of the final clause. Use one paragraph for reasons and advantages and another for disadvantages, with each paragraph developing a clear central idea and a concluding link.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “moral values,” “tradition and culture,” “facilities,” and “heritage work.” These choices show an effort to discuss family, place and opportunity rather than relying only on very basic words. However, the range is limited and frequent spelling and word-choice errors make some ideas difficult to understand, as in “abountent of proponents,” “intouch with soil,” and “materopolitian.” Some expressions are not natural in context: “under shadow of parents” and “open window for business” do not clearly convey your intended meaning. Aim for accurate, familiar collocations before using more ambitious phrases, and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “local traditions,” “limited public services,” and “family business” would make your points clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use some sentence variety, including a subordinate clause in “Although this development offers several benefits” and a reason clause with “owing to.” This shows an attempt to move beyond simple sentences. However, the range remains limited, and errors in basic sentence construction and agreement occur frequently enough to make parts of the response hard to follow. For example, “some people wants” has subject–verb disagreement, while “everyone has own dream” is missing a possessive determiner. The final clause, “albeit individuals where they growup that cities,” is incomplete and does not form a clear sentence. Practise checking each sentence for a subject and finite verb, and use complete clauses with accurate articles, possessives and agreement.
