Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals spend most of their live near to where they were born instead of moving to another cities.Whereas, others move to different cities. There are several reasons for people to choose the place to live and it have positive as well as negative impact.

People have a great connection with their birthplace. They spend their childhood and develop a strong relationship with others at their native place. Some may have their own business, shops or agricultural land in the hometown, that encourage them to live there.

On the one hand, people tend to stay in the same home town were they are born because they have a strong emotional attachment. Many people do not want to leave their parents, relatives and friends as they play an important aspect of their lives. For instance, suppose a person having trouble with financial issues and they need help from their closed one's.Therefore, they need a good connection with people for getting help. Moreover, the most significant reason is it might be more expensive and challenging to live in another town or cities than our hometown due to our culture, tradition and lifestyle.

On the other hand, there are some disadvantages too to live in the same place. One major cause can be the job opportunities and availability of educational institution. For example, a person good in academics might not get a better job as they have to work for less wages, therefore, they move to another places to find more full-filling and high salaried works. In addition, in some places there may be difficulty in commuting. For instance, transportation may be a big issue for people living in villages rather than in developed places. Another issue is that, people could not become self independent as they are familiar only with people surrounded by them.

In conclusion, people tend to live in homeland only because of the family relationships, financial security and emotional bond to the place. However, this comfortability can cause a restriction to the career development and cannot get new experiences in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both questions: it gives reasons for staying near one’s birthplace, including family ties, emotional attachment, local businesses and the cost of moving, and it discusses disadvantages such as fewer jobs, limited education and transport difficulties. The conclusion also restates the main trade-off between security and career development. These relevant points meet the task well, but their development is uneven. The financial-help example is hypothetical and only loosely explains why people remain, while the point about becoming less independent is asserted rather than illustrated. To strengthen the response, explain more clearly how each reason affects the decision to stay and support the less-developed disadvantages with a specific example. The response has a clear overall position, though the advantages could be stated and developed more explicitly as advantages rather than mainly as reasons for staying.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to reasons, disadvantages and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the main stages, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” make the overall direction clear. However, the opening paragraph and the next paragraph both introduce reasons for staying, so the progression is somewhat repetitive. Some links are mechanical, and the long disadvantages paragraph combines employment, transport and independence without clearly grouping or ranking these points. References such as “they” in the example about financial problems are not always precise. Organise the body around distinct advantages and disadvantages, and use transitions that show the relationship between ideas rather than relying mainly on standard signposting.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate its main ideas, including “emotional attachment,” “financial security,” “job opportunities” and “career development.” It also attempts less common expressions such as “self independent” and “full-filling,” but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision. Examples include “their closed one's” for close ones, “high salaried works” for well-paid jobs, and “comfortability” for comfort. There are also spelling and word-form problems, including “live” where “lives” is intended and “full-filling.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make parts less fluent. Build accuracy by learning common collocations as complete phrases and checking word forms and spelling during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

There is an attempt to use both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “as” and “although”-type contrasts, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, errors occur across sentence structures, agreement, articles, plurals and punctuation. For example, “it have positive as well as negative impact” has agreement and article problems, while “the same home town were they are born” uses the wrong form of “where.” The sentence beginning “For example, a person good in academics might not get a better job as they have to work for less wages” also has an unclear grammatical relationship between its clauses. Missing spaces after full stops and comma placement further affect accuracy. Review agreement and clause construction, and proofread sentence boundaries; more consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
