Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for staying in one's birthplace, as well as the advantages and disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For instance, the discussion on family support as a benefit and career limitations as a drawback provides a clear structure. However, some points could be more deeply explored; for example, the mention of 'financial circumstances' in the introduction is not fully expanded upon in the body paragraphs. The position is clear throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that every point mentioned in the introduction is fully supported with specific examples in the body.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Furthermore', and 'However' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some referencing is a bit repetitive. For example, the transition between the advantages and disadvantages could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the essay maintains a consistent focus on the topic throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'emotional support', 'career growth', and 'financial circumstances'. However, there are some word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'Some segment of people' (should be 'A segment of the population') and 'reach the crucial opportunities' (should be 'access crucial opportunities'). Additionally, there are minor spelling and grammatical slips, such as 'palaces' instead of 'places'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'One of the main reason' (should be 'reasons'), 'their parent are their to assist them' (should be 'parents are there'), and 'People who lives' (should be 'live'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to demonstrate more consistent control over complex structures and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
