Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address the reasons for staying in one's hometown and mention some advantages and disadvantages, the essay is incomplete. The final paragraph is cut off mid-sentence, and the second disadvantage is left blank in the introduction. Because the task is not fully addressed due to the incomplete nature of the writing, the development of ideas is insufficient. To improve, ensure you fully flesh out each point with clear examples and complete your arguments before concluding.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay shows a basic attempt at logical organization, with separate paragraphs for reasons, advantages, and disadvantages. However, the progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'For instance,' but they are sometimes used mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of a proper conclusion or a completed final paragraph disrupts the overall flow. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, completed structure that contributes to the overall argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'employment opportunities' and 'career growth,' but there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'born place' instead of 'birthplace' or 'hometown.' There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation that, while not impeding communication, limit the sophistication of the response. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, and ensure you are using words in their correct grammatical context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'it's challenges' (should be 'its'), 'living close to t[where they born provide' (subject-verb agreement and word order issues), and 'If someone prefer to stay in London would has' (incorrect verb forms). These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these slips prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentence structures are grammatically sound.
