Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons, advantages, and disadvantages are all covered. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of cultural ties and financial constraints. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the point about '95 percent of the global population living paycheck to paycheck' is a specific claim that lacks a clear connection to the broader argument about migration. While the position is clear, the supporting examples could be more thoroughly explained to reach a higher band. The essay remains focused throughout, but the depth of analysis is consistent with a band 6 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or missing. For example, the transition between the reasons and the advantages is abrupt. There are also issues with punctuation, such as missing full stops and comma splices (e.g., '...same house and pass on to next generation which lead to strong relations...'), which disrupts the flow of ideas. While the progression is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the frequent punctuation errors make the cohesion feel somewhat disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'globalization' and 'populace', but the range is limited. There are also several word-choice errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'rising on rapid rate' instead of 'at a rapid rate' and 'time of from work' instead of 'time off'. Spelling errors like 'diffrent' also occur. To improve, the student should focus on more precise collocations and ensure they are using words in their correct grammatical form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement ('this trend have'), article usage ('the reason behind the trend'), and run-on sentences. Punctuation is a significant weakness, with many sentences lacking proper terminal punctuation or using commas incorrectly. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of grammatical slips prevents the response from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on sentence boundaries and basic grammatical consistency.
