Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for staying, advantages, and disadvantages. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on disadvantages is quite brief and lacks depth, focusing primarily on the lack of facilities in small towns. The ideas are relevant but could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is clear, but the overall structure feels a bit rushed, preventing a more comprehensive exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is some use of cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition to this', and 'On the contrary'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing. For example, the transition between the benefits of staying in an ancestral home and the disadvantages of small-town living is abrupt. The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, which affects the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'ancient home' instead of 'ancestral home' and 'build that house beautiful' instead of 'renovate the house'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of more sophisticated or precise lexical items prevents the response from achieving a higher score in this category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'living near the place where you born' (missing auxiliary verb), 'is associated with the childhood memories' (article usage), and 'is takes you' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar—such as subject-verb agreement and article usage—is noticeable throughout the text.
