Student answer (Band 6.5)

Individuals have soft corner in their heart for the place where they were born and sometimes people spend most of their lives living in the same neighborhood .However, this phenomenon have many reasons, which I will discuss in further paragraphs along with pros and cons.

To begin with, many people never leave there hometowns because of family relations. It has been seen from many years that some religions and cultures have strong family beliefs and all they consider wealth is healthier and joint families, who stands by them in celebrations and in hard times. Additionally, many young peoples does not suffer during their adult life to find better jobs and settle as they join family business in many nations. For example, in Asia it has been recorder that over eighty percent of young individuals are living with their elder parents as its in their culture.

On the other hand, some individuals think that staying in small circle of birth place can effect the personal abilities and growth of people. As a result, after doing college degrees aspirants does not explore the job market in metropolitan areas where they can succeed and earn hefty amount of money and can grow their knowledge in different sectors. For instance, people are travelling world, trying new cuisine, doing adventures only because they are working in big firms and they explored their potential. Adding more, that when they live alone without family they learn new skills like socializing with people in public and making new friends.

In conclusion, living in place of birth has many advantages and benefits but it has various demerit points as in todays advanced world people should respect their beliefs but figure their actual life goals and potentials.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for staying in one's birthplace, and the advantages and disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, such as family ties and cultural expectations for the reasons, and personal growth versus limited opportunities for the pros and cons. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the discussion on 'advantages' is implied rather than explicitly stated as a distinct section, and the conclusion is a bit brief. To reach a higher band, you should ensure each point is fully extended with more specific analysis or nuanced examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Adding more, that when they live alone'. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'it' in 'as its in their culture', where the antecedent is ambiguous. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the flow between sentences could be improved to make the writing feel more natural and cohesive.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward collocations or word choices, such as 'soft corner in their heart', 'hefty amount of money', and 'demerit points'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology. For example, instead of 'demerit points', use 'drawbacks' or 'disadvantages'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('this phenomenon have', 'many young peoples does not', 'aspirants does not') and prepositional errors ('leave there hometowns' instead of 'their', 'travelling world' instead of 'travelling the world'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they are persistent throughout the text. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammar and refining the use of complex structures will help elevate your score.
