Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for staying in one's birthplace, and the advantages and disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, such as the sense of security and community support, as well as the potential for stagnation. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of 'cognitive growth' is mentioned but not fully explored with specific examples. The position is clear throughout, but the essay would benefit from more depth in the supporting arguments to reach a higher band. Overall, it is a solid attempt that covers the requirements adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'However'. While these are generally effective, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. There are also some minor issues with referencing and sentence-level flow, such as the slightly awkward phrasing in the introduction. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the prompt. The progression of ideas is clear, though the connection between sentences could be smoother in some places to improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary epoch', 'elucidate', and 'reallocate' (though 'relocate' would be the correct term here). Some word choices are slightly imprecise or misused, such as 'reallocate' instead of 'relocate' and 'secured' instead of 'secure'. Despite these occasional errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the range of vocabulary is sufficient to discuss the topic in a reasonably sophisticated manner.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Their are several reasons', 'make them feel confident'), punctuation errors (missing commas, comma splices), and word form errors ('various disadvantage'). While these errors are frequent, they do not impede communication. The writer demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but control over these is inconsistent. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring correct punctuation, particularly around introductory phrases and conjunctions.
