Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for staying in one's birthplace and discussing advantages and disadvantages. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the reasons provided in the second paragraph are listed rather than explained in depth. Furthermore, the essay's thesis statement in the introduction claims that the benefits of migration will outweigh the drawbacks, but the essay does not clearly contrast these against the benefits of staying, leading to a slight imbalance in the argument. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples and ensure that the advantages and disadvantages of both staying and moving are balanced and clearly linked to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Nevertheless', and 'To recapitulate', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final sentence where 'it's roots' (grammatical error) and the connection to the previous argument could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal flow within paragraphs could be improved by using more varied linking words rather than relying on simple list-like structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including phrases like 'vicinity of their roots', 'proliferation of generational values', and 'cross-culture integration'. There are some attempts at less common lexical items, though some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'heirloom in the family' (heirloom usually refers to an object) and 'high esteemed job prospects'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice that prevent a higher score. Focusing on precise collocations and ensuring words are used in their correct context will help improve your lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. For example, 'The primary reason of this because of proliferation' is grammatically incorrect, and there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage throughout the text (e.g., 'it is birth-right of an individual'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure in the second paragraph is somewhat fragmented. To improve, focus on ensuring that your complex sentences are grammatically sound and that you proofread for basic errors in articles and prepositions.
