Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people spent most of their live living close to the place where they were born. There are several reasons for this choice, I believe that living near one's hometown has many benefits.

One important reason is family attachment. Many people prefer to stay close to their parents, relatives and childhood friend because they have strong emotional connection with them. In addition, people may have stable jobs, thier own home and established social people prefer the security and familiarity of their hometown.

There are several advantages to living close to where one was born. First, people can receive emotional and practical support form family members, especially when they have children or with the local culture, language and community, which can make life more comfortable. They may also have long -term friendship and profession connection that can help them in their personal and working lives.

However, there are also some disadvantages. The main drawback is that people may have fewer opportunities for education and employment if their hometown is small or less developed area.Staying in the same place for many years may also limit a person's espouse to different cultures and way of thinking. As a result ,they might miss opportunities to develop new skills or experience different life styles.

In conclusion, people often remain newer their birthplace because of family ties, financial stability and familiarity.Although this can provide a strong support system and a comfortable lifestyle, it may also limit career opportunities and personal experience. Therefore, people should carefully consider both their family responsibilities and future opportunities when deciding where to live.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for staying in one's birthplace, as well as the advantages and disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and logically grouped into paragraphs. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about 'fewer opportunities' is mentioned but not fully explored with specific examples or deeper analysis. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more detailed explanations or concrete examples. The position is clear throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. There is a logical progression of ideas from the reasons to the pros and cons. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'First', 'However', and 'As a result'. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'with the local culture' in the second body paragraph, which lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety and flow of your linking words would help the essay read more naturally and improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'emotional attachment', 'financial stability', and 'professional connection'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'established social people' (likely meant 'social circles') and 'espouse to different cultures' (meant 'exposure'). Additionally, there are some spelling errors like 'form' instead of 'from' and 'newer' instead of 'near'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise, academic vocabulary to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Some people spent' instead of 'spend') and missing articles or prepositions. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are spacing issues after commas and periods throughout the text. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the recurring errors in basic grammar prevent the writing from being considered highly accurate. Focusing on consistent verb tense usage and proofreading for small grammatical slips will significantly improve your score.
