Student answer (Band 6.0)

The community has a narative that people tend to live in communities where they were born. While a large number of the community agree to this there are some who are redudant, let's discuss the advantages and disadvantages to this theory.

On the first hand, humans tend to live in a community where they were born since a research shows that they benefit from the fact that they spend their valuable time with their family members together. I can relate this fact with an example of my friend; he was born in Mumbai where all their family members lived in a grouped family home. He said that he would prefer staying with his relatives as they would share responsibilities and have fun together.

On the other hand, grouped family homes also pose a disadvantage as the priorities shift between family members and children may feel left out if an elder favors one over the other. My aunt who lives in Sydney refers to her experience where she lived together in a family home. She narates that her grandfather had his favouratism towards my aunt's elder son leaving the young daughter, this led her to separate her home and stay independently to avaid hatred towards his kids upbringing.

Having discussed both benefits and losses of living where you were born, my perspective supports the fact that living near where you were born is necessary so you inherit the ancestral upbringing, cultures and brotherhood you gain against living in a separate community.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for staying in one's birthplace and discussing both advantages and disadvantages. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The reasons provided are quite narrow, focusing almost exclusively on 'grouped family homes' rather than broader socio-economic or cultural factors. While the position is clear, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesize the points made. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph explores the topic with more depth and diverse examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the first hand', 'On the other hand', and 'While' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or non-standard (e.g., 'On the first hand' should be 'On the one hand'). Referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'narative' (narrative), 'redudant' (redundant), 'favouratism' (favouritism), 'narates' (narrates), and 'avaid' (avoid). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. The range of vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'benefits' and 'losses'. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of key terms to demonstrate a wider lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect the flow, such as 'a research shows' (research is uncountable), 'all their family members lived' (referring to a singular friend), and 'his kids upbringing' (possessive error). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that suggest a lack of control over complex structures. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
