Student answer (Band 6.5)
Many people prefer to live in their hometown or at their birthplace rather than live away from home. There could be several reasons influencing this trend such as familiarity and comfort. Some suggest living far from their own hometown is more beneficial in terms of opportunities and personal development. However, I believe that the advantages of living around their birthplace outweigh the disadvantages which I will discuss in the following paragraphs.
One of the main reasons is that people find their birthplace is their roots and stay connected to it can build and strengthen relationships with their families and peers. They can preserve and grow their culture and traditions more than anywhere else. For example, one can take care of their older family members and can learn and practice traditional beliefs and cultural values with them. Another reason is that they are more familiar and comfortable living there, as they spend most of their lives in the town. Due to these social connections, they would have secured jobs or successful businesses that they have grown without the stress of unknown competition.
I believe that there are more advantages than disadvantages to this scenario. People living close to the place where they were born create strong relationships which make them feel secure, give them a sense of belonging and identity. They can care for their community and provide help in difficult situations which makes them responsible residents. Additionally, individuals who live close to their family would live without worrying about buying houses or other major expenses they may encounter when living far from their birthplace. Also, they can enjoy their own heritage and attend special occasions. For example, some places have sacred ceremonies that one could attend without spending an excessive amount and save travel costs when living in their hometown.
Overall, residing in the birthplace is a common lifestyle choice among people as they experience strong social connections with the comfort and familiarity of place. They can enjoy their traditional and cultural festivals and carry forward their values and beliefs to their future generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for staying in one's birthplace, as well as the advantages and disadvantages. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are generally well-supported. However, the discussion of disadvantages is somewhat limited; while you mention that living away from home offers 'opportunities and personal development,' you do not elaborate on the specific disadvantages of staying in one's hometown (such as limited career growth or lack of exposure to new perspectives) in sufficient detail. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal depth and balance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different themes. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However,' 'Additionally,' and 'For example,' which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and the referencing could be more precise in places. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better link the reasons for staying with the broader advantages. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific language like 'cultural values,' 'heritage,' and 'social connections.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'secured jobs... that they have grown.' Using more precise academic vocabulary would enhance the quality of the response. The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, and errors do not impede communication, but more variety in word choice would elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'stay connected to it can build' (should be 'staying connected to it can build') and 'they are more familiar and comfortable living there' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). There are also minor issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the punctuation is generally accurate. To improve, focus on refining complex sentence structures and ensuring consistent grammatical accuracy throughout.
