Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by identifying reasons for living near one's birthplace and discussing advantages and disadvantages. However, the development is limited, and the essay is under the minimum word count of 250 words, which negatively impacts the depth of the response. The ideas, such as 'comfort zone' and 'career path', are mentioned but not fully explored or supported with sufficient detail. Additionally, the conclusion is very brief and does not adequately summarize the main points. To improve, you should expand on your arguments with more specific examples and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a more comprehensive discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. While some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Consequently' are used, they are occasionally applied in a way that feels mechanical. The transition between the advantages and disadvantages is abrupt, and the lack of a clear, well-developed conclusion makes the overall progression feel incomplete. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'livelihood' used incorrectly to mean 'life' or 'time', and 'origin of birth' which is redundant. Some phrases are repetitive, and there is a lack of less common lexical items. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise vocabulary to express your ideas. For example, instead of 'make them fee happy', use 'foster a sense of security' or 'emotional well-being'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'residents wants', 'places makes'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'they were not able to explore'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and sentence boundaries. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar limits the score. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
