Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for staying in one's birthplace, and the advantages and disadvantages. The ideas are relevant, such as emotional comfort and community support, as well as the potential for social conflict. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the disadvantages are mentioned briefly without deep exploration of the societal or economic implications. The position is clear, but the overall structure of the argument could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The conclusion is incomplete, which slightly affects the overall task completion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'consequently', 'moreover', and 'for instance', though some are used mechanically or incorrectly (e.g., 'In rewards they live...'). The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the advantages and disadvantages is abrupt. The final paragraph is cut off mid-sentence, which disrupts the coherence of the conclusion. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences occasionally feels repetitive due to the limited variety of linking phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'formost', 'familier', 'fastivels', 'retuals', 'mamy', and 'dipression'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'community surroundings' and 'emotional attachment', the overall range is limited. The student relies on basic descriptors and struggles with accurate word choice in several instances, such as 'make too much efforts to be interact'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'life become more easy', 'people has faced'), article usage, and sentence construction (e.g., 'They are already familier with the place and community surroundings'). Punctuation is also problematic, with several run-on sentences and incorrect comma usage. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of grammatical errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Complex structures are attempted but often contain errors.
