Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for staying in one's birthplace and outlining both advantages and disadvantages. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, the explanation of 'emotional values' is repetitive, and the discussion of disadvantages lacks depth, relying on a brief mention of transport and medical facilities. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or elaborate on the consequences of these factors. The position is clear, but the overall response is underdeveloped, which limits the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'There are there some cons' and 'according to me'. The progression of ideas is somewhat simplistic, and the transitions between sentences feel repetitive. While the essay is coherent enough to be understood, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional awkward phrasing prevent a higher score. Improving the variety of transition signals would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'spent' instead of 'spend', 'proas' instead of 'pros', 'berth' instead of 'birth', and 'are' instead of 'area'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to the topic and ensure you proofread for basic spelling and collocation errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'A place where someone is born always care a special place in this heart' (subject-verb agreement and preposition errors). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. Frequent errors in basic grammar, such as verb tense and article usage, are present throughout the text. To improve, you should practice constructing more complex sentences accurately and focus on subject-verb agreement.
