Student answer (Band 6.0)

Certain individuals believe that they like to live in the place where they were born. It has some pros as well as cons also which will be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs.

First, there are a plethora of benefits to spending most of the life living close because people feel some connection with that place where they were born, they learned how to walk, made good friends, enjoyed festivals, and so on. They have really good relations with their neighbours as they can easily interact with them and they can also help each other in difficult situations. That place has become a comfort zone for them where they spend most of their childhood, so that's why, some people do not like to live their life in other places.

On the other hand, there are several drawbacks such as people cannot be able to have conversations and interact with the other people because they feel uncomfortable and shy. As a result, they will become introverts and their confidence level will be low. Furthermore, they will also not be able to experience the different culture, traditions, and language of different countries.

In conclusion, I think it has some advantages like they can easily share their feelings and emotions with the other people where they live and they can just have knowledge of their own culture and tradition. Meanwhile, it also has disadvantages such as if they want to increase their confidence and want to learn about other traditions, so they have to come out from their comfort zone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for staying in one's birthplace, and the advantages and disadvantages. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the reasons provided are limited to emotional comfort and social connections, and the disadvantages are restricted to shyness and lack of cultural exposure. To reach a higher band, you should expand on these points with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The position is clear, but the overall depth of the argument is limited, which is characteristic of a Band 6 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for pros and cons, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, but the referencing is occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'that place' is used frequently). The structure is sufficient for a Band 6, as the information is arranged coherently, even if the flow is not particularly sophisticated or varied.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on common phrases like 'good relations', 'difficult situations', and 'comfort zone'. While these are used correctly, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'people cannot be able to have conversations'. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and less common lexical items to convey your ideas with more nuance and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'people cannot be able to' (redundant modal usage) and 'they will also not be able to experience the different culture' (missing pluralisation). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on improving your control over modal verbs and ensuring subject-verb agreement and pluralisation are consistent across your writing.
