Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is true that, some individuals spend lives live in their birthplace. This is good for them as well as their families ut there is also some disadvantages for them. I will discuss this in upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, some people really likes to spend time with there families and they always live there birthplace with them. They just complete their study in nearby schools and help their parents in every household chores which is very good thing. The main reason of this is those people do not want to leave their near and dear once and always want to connect with their birthplace. When their parents become older they help them . They give them what they want at a moment and they also save their life’s precious memories.

On the other hand, there is some bad effects also. When they live close to where they born, they are not able to learn new and different things. For instance, those people who are not interested to leave their favourite place, not learn the main and important lessons of their life. They miss many opportunities related to their study. If they go out from that places they make new friends meet people from different backgrounds and cultures, but they lose this chance as well.

In conclusion, there is some advantage and disadvantage both for who always live in their birthplace. The reason is their love and emotions with their birth town and family’s.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons, advantages, and disadvantages. However, the development is limited and the essay is under the minimum word count requirement of 250 words. The ideas are presented in a basic manner, such as 'help their parents' or 'not able to learn new things', which lack depth and specific supporting examples. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the points made. To improve, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for a more comprehensive discussion of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, the transition 'On the other hand' is used correctly, but the overall flow between sentences is often disjointed. There are issues with referencing, such as 'those people' and 'that places', which are not always clearly linked to the preceding ideas. Paragraphing is present, but the logical progression of ideas within the paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear pronoun references would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'good thing', 'bad effects', and 'near and dear once' (likely meaning 'ones') show a limited range. There are also errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'there birthplace' instead of 'their birthplace' and 'life's precious memories' used in a slightly unnatural context. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary and collocations, such as 'emotional attachment' instead of 'love and emotions', and avoid repeating simple adjectives like 'good' or 'bad'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'those people who are not interested to leave their favourite place, not learn the main and important lessons'. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, as seen in 'some people really likes' and 'there is some advantage and disadvantage'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect comma usage. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement, while gradually incorporating more varied complex structures with greater accuracy.
