Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is true that many people prefer to live their hometowns instead of living far from them. This essay will explain some factors, benefits and drawbacks associated with this aspect in the upcoming paragraphs.

There are numerous reasons why people want to live near to places where they were born. One of the main factors is that they are more attached to the areas as they spend their childhood there and also familiar with the neighborhood. For example, if they migrate to another city, they would mostly feel alone there. Moreover, it is really difficult for them to settle in unknown places where they do not know anything about the location of important facilities such as educational and health care.

While spending lives near to hometowns is advantageous for humans, it also has some disadvantages. The primary advantage is that they can stay connected to their cultures and traditions if they do not migrate to another city or a country. In addition, it is in human nature that they do not like to change their environment and feel comfortable and stay exhilarated while living in their houses. However, the disadvantage of living near to hometowns is limited job opportunities. For example, it is really difficult to find a suitable job in the countryside areas, a person who lives may have to settle in a different job which is not relevant to his field.

In conclusion, there are some factors, such as attachment and convenience, reliving near to birth places. Although this phenomenon has some advantages such as comfortability and connecting with cultures and traditions, it consists some disadvantages such as less employment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for staying in one's hometown, and the advantages and disadvantages of doing so. The ideas are relevant, such as emotional attachment and limited job opportunities. However, the development is somewhat basic. For instance, the discussion on advantages could be more nuanced; it relies on general statements about 'culture' and 'comfort' without specific examples or deeper analysis. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand your points with more detailed explanations or concrete illustrations, ensuring that the 'why' behind your arguments is fully explored.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover', 'While', and 'In addition', to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the concluding paragraph is slightly disjointed, particularly the phrase 'reliving near to birth places', which is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow of the summary. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. You use common terms like 'important facilities', 'suitable job', and 'different job'. While these are accurate, they do not demonstrate a wide range of lexical items. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'reliving near to birth places' (likely meant 'living near') and 'comfortability' (a less common, awkward construction compared to 'comfort'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to migration and socio-economic factors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'they are more attached to the areas as they spend their childhood there and also familiar with the neighborhood' is missing a verb ('are also familiar'). Additionally, 'it consists some disadvantages' should be 'it consists of some disadvantages'. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'living near to hometowns'. Increasing the variety of complex structures while reducing these recurring errors will help you achieve a higher band score.
