Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals choose to spend most of their lives living at their birthplace, while others prefer to move different countries or state. There are several reason why people remain close to birthplace and this decision have their own advantages and disadvantages which are explained in following paragraphs.

One major reason is to stay close to their birthplace because of strong connection with their family. Since they have strong emotional bonding with their parents, children and childhood friends, they may not want to move far away. As a result, they can maintain these relationships and always support each other's in difficult situation. Another reason is that people feel more comfortable in familiar surroundings. Since they already know the local culture, language and community, moving to an unfamiliar place may seem stressful. Consequently, they may prefer to remain in their hometown, where they feel safe and secure.

Living close to one's birthplace has several advantages. One major advantage is having a strong support network. Since people live close to their family and long-term friends, they can easily help each other in times of need. As a result, they often feel more secure and emotionally supported. Another advantage is a strong sense of belonging. Because people are familiar with the local culture, traditions and lifestyle, they usually feel comfortable in their community. Consequently, they may experience less stress and greater satisfaction with their lives.

Living at birthplace for most of the time has also several disadvantages. One major disadvantages is less career opportunities. In smaller town may not offer wide range of employment opportunities, due to that, people may struggle to find their suitable job. as a result, they may earn less and they may find difficulty to reach their goals. Another drawback is that limited experience. As people live in familiar and same environment for many years, they may never find new experience of different cultures and lifestyles. consequently, they miss valuable opportunity to develop their personal growth.

In conclusion, people may choose to live close to their birthplace because of strong family ties and the comfort of familiar surroundings. Although this can provide family support and a strong sense of belonging, it may also limit career opportunities and exposure to new experiences.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for staying, advantages, and disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and logically grouped into paragraphs. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the points about 'support networks' and 'family ties' are mentioned in both the reasons and the advantages sections, which leads to a lack of depth. To improve, you should ensure that each paragraph introduces distinct, well-extended ideas rather than restating similar concepts. The position is clear throughout, and the structure is appropriate for an IELTS Task 2 essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'consequently,' 'as a result,' and 'another reason' to link ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing; for example, in the phrase 'this decision have their own advantages,' the pronoun 'this' is a bit vague. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different aspects of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'emotional bonding,' 'support network,' and 'career opportunities.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'move different countries' (should be 'move to different countries') and 'living at birthplace' (should be 'living in one's birthplace'). You attempt to use some less common vocabulary, but the overall range is somewhat limited. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('this decision have,' 'one major disadvantages is') and missing articles ('in smaller town'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are instances of run-on sentences or incorrect capitalization after full stops. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
