Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's era, the majority of folks prefer to live near the area where they were born. In my opinion, this trend has both pro and cons for certain reasons, I will discuss my viewpoints in the upcoming paragraphs.

To commence with the benefits of living near the birthplace area. The predominant one is masses can stay connected with their root permanently. To explicate it, they have a strong bond with their loved ones. So during any ups and downs in life they can take emotional and financial support from them. To cite an example, a headline in famous newspaper "The Times New Rome" revealed that people who live close to their families they are more happier and feel more stress-free as compared to others. However, there are those who believe that, the main reason for this is strong family bonding, due to this, parents do not want to send their children to other cities. As a result, they claim that it is more fruitful for them to live close to their hometowns.

Moving forward towards the disadvantages, the first and foremost is that most of the time individuals are deprived from the higher studies, and they have to face unemployment. In other words, multitudes have to face a lot of financial issues in their lives. For example, a survey conducted by local authorities in 2025 revealed that children who spent their most of the live at their birthplace, their success rate in the upcoming life is less as compare to others.

To conclude, although most of the women and men prefer to live close to their hometown, but I believe it has more drawbacks, as if people go far from their home, they can learn more.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons, advantages, and disadvantages. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation of why people stay near their birthplace is limited to family bonding, and the disadvantages are presented in a generalized way without deep exploration. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The inclusion of a specific example, such as the newspaper headline, is a good attempt at support, though the citation itself is slightly informal. Overall, the task is addressed, but the depth of analysis remains at a mid-level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Moving forward', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, though there are occasional lapses in flow, such as the sentence structure in the second paragraph regarding family bonding. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is logical, moving from reasons to advantages and then to disadvantages, which provides a coherent structure for the reader to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. The student uses informal phrasing like 'folks' and 'masses', which is not ideal for an IELTS essay. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'more happier' (a grammatical error affecting lexical precision) and 'deprived from the higher studies'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited. To improve, the student should focus on using more academic collocations and avoiding informal, conversational language in favor of more precise, formal alternatives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'people who live close to their families they are more happier' (redundant pronoun and incorrect comparative form) and 'spent their most of the live'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence construction, such as comma splices in the introduction. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to subject-verb agreement and sentence structure is required.
