Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for staying in one's birthplace, as well as the advantages and disadvantages. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention emotional benefits and financial drawbacks, the arguments lack depth and specific supporting evidence. For instance, the discussion on career stability is quite brief and relies on a personal anecdote rather than a broader analysis of economic factors. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed reasoning or broader examples that demonstrate a deeper understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To start with', 'In addition', and 'However'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'Although... However' in the introduction. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack proper connection, which disrupts the flow. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help your ideas connect more naturally and improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'happy', 'trouble', and 'profit and loss'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'cone' instead of 'con/downside' and 'moved to the foreign' instead of 'moved abroad'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'emotional security', 'professional development', or 'economic stagnation', and ensure that words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'They does not feel', 'They does not get'), incorrect punctuation (e.g., starting sentences with 'Which' or 'So'), and missing articles. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining your sentence punctuation will significantly improve the accuracy and professional quality of your writing.
