Student answer (Band 6.0)

People got attached where they live for long time, especially the place where they born. However, some really like to spend their most of the time of their life over the place where they born. This essay will describe the reasons behind it, also its advantages and disadvantages.

To begin with, folks started loving the place where they first arrive in this world. They spends their quality time of life with the surrounding people where they get their blood relations, other relatives. They get school friends where they studied and other buddies where they play and spend rest of the time. They got familiar with streets and roads of their hometown. They have relatives where they can visit anytime and got treated by them like their own kids. For instance, a boy who grew up at a particular place would like to continue his life over there only. As things becomes easier for him to manage for entire life.

Moving further there are advantages of living at same place. To be more more specific, it become very easy to get settle over the same place. As, one can get job easily by reference or by family relations, also where an individual completed studies can get job in same school or college. On the other hand, talking about disadvantages, people left with less options if they stick to one place. They miss the better opportunities which they can get from other places. Although, they do not put much efforts from themselves to achieve things. Thus, they do not learn much from circumstances.

To be concluded, people who do not want to put much efforts and want things in easier and simple way but also are not ready to leave their blood relations, are like to stick to their birth place. Even though, this is not always positive for all.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt: reasons for staying in one's birthplace, as well as the advantages and disadvantages. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the reasons provided focus primarily on emotional attachment and familiarity, but could be expanded with more depth regarding economic or cultural factors. The advantages and disadvantages are mentioned, but the explanation remains quite general. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, well-supported examples rather than relying on broad statements. The position is clear, but the overall depth of the argument is limited, which keeps this in the mid-range.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the introduction to the reasons, then to the pros and cons, and finally the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To begin with', 'Moving further', 'To be concluded'). Some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'They have relatives where they can visit anytime and got treated by them like their own kids.' Improving the variety and sophistication of your linking words would help the flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic, everyday language such as 'folks', 'buddies', and 'things'. While the meaning is clear, there is little attempt to use less common or more academic vocabulary. There are also some issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'get settle' instead of 'settle down' and 'put much efforts' instead of 'put in much effort'. To improve, focus on learning collocations and more precise synonyms for common verbs and nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'They spends', 'things becomes'), tense inconsistencies (e.g., 'folks started loving'), and missing articles or incorrect prepositions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, you should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tenses. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will also help raise your score.
