Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing the reasons why some people stay in their birthplace alongside the advantages and disadvantages. In the introduction, the writer outlines the essay's direction. The reasons provided include emotional attachment and traditional mindsets. The advantages covered are social connections, family support, and a sense of safety, while the disadvantages include limited opportunities to make new friends and experience diverse cultures. However, some ideas lack deep extension and tend to over-generalise, such as attributing staying solely to a 'narrow mind'. Overall, the task is adequately answered, placing the response solidly in the band 6 category for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is arranged with a clear overall structure, featuring an introduction, body paragraphs for reasons, advantages, and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'In addition', and 'On the other hands' are used to connect sentences and paragraphs, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as pronoun usage referring back to previous clauses. Despite these minor issues, the logical organisation is clear enough to guide the reader through the text without major confusion, corresponding to a band 6 level.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate less common items such as 'emotional attachment', 'cultural activity', and 'opportunities'. However, there are notable word-choice errors, incorrect collocations, and awkward phrasing throughout the text, such as 'nearby those area where they born and brought', 'in the term of', and 'forth father ritual'. Spelling mistakes also appear, such as 'otherhands' and 'vivid are'. While these lexical inaccuracies and awkward expressions are noticeable and sometimes strain the reader, meaning is generally conveyed, aligning with the descriptors for band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb tenses, articles, and prepositions, such as 'where they born and brought', 'will be describe', 'they did not have chance', and 'it will gives opportunity'. Subject-verb agreement is also problematic in several instances, such as 'some human who follow... never leave' and 'it will gives'. These frequent errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from reaching a higher band, placing this criterion at a band 5.0 level.
