Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many of the individuals keep staying at places close to their birthplace without shifting to new places. This behaviour is influenced by many of the factors. This essay will not only discuss the reasons behind this but also the advantages and disadvantages for living pattern with a logical conclusion.

To commence with, many people prefer to stay close to their birthplace as they are deeply connected with that place. They share memories with that place of growing up and playing with their friends in the grounds. So, it is difficult for them to leave that place beacuse of the emotional connection they share with it. Moreover, many of them do not move far away because they want to live close to their parents. They want to keep visitng them over short period of times which is convenient by living close to their place. For example, they can easily celebrate occasions and festivals together with their loved ones by living near.

Nevertheless, there are merits and demerits of living close to your home. Firstly, for the merit, the person can assist their parents in few tasks as of taking care of their health and in other household chores. For instance, in case of any medical emergency, they can provide help quickly over short distances. Futhermore, for the demerit, sometimes they lose oppourtunity for working in better conditions and grow in their field over with help of various platforms.

To conclude, although they are few reasons due to which people continue living close to their place as due to their memories of the place and the love for their parents yet it have few merits and demerits of it, which gets effected by their choice of staying there.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying reasons why people stay close to their birthplace, alongside both advantages and disadvantages. The student introduces reasons such as emotional connection and proximity to parents, and covers merits like helping with household chores and medical emergencies, as well as demerits like missing out on better working conditions. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed and tend to generalise without deep exploration. For instance, the discussion on career opportunities is brief and could be extended with more specific examples. Overall, the position is clear throughout and the prompt's requirements are satisfactorily met, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing used to separate the introduction, reasons, advantages/disadvantages, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'Nevertheless'. However, referencing and cohesion can sometimes be repetitive or mechanical, such as the frequent repetition of 'with that place' in the second paragraph. Paragraph boundaries are logical, but the progression within paragraphs occasionally feels slightly repetitive in phrasing. This reflects the characteristics of Band 6, where ideas are generally connected but cohesive devices show some mechanical tendencies.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'emotional connection' and 'medical emergency'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'beacuse' instead of 'because', 'keep visitng' with a typo, 'oppourtunity' instead of 'opportunity', and awkward phrasings like 'keep staying at places'. These lexical errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the score to a solid Band 6, as the vocabulary control lacks the precision and flexibility required for Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional clauses ('in case of any medical emergency, they can provide help quickly') and relative clauses ('people prefer to stay close... as they are deeply connected'). There are several grammatical errors and awkward structures, including 'advantages and disadvantages for living pattern', 'over with help of various platforms', and 'yet it have few merits'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede communication, placing the response squarely at Band 6.
