Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing reasons why people live close to where they were born, as well as the advantages and disadvantages. However, there are notable limitations. First, the response is under-length, containing only 231 words against the mandatory 250-word minimum, which directly impacts the fullness of idea development. While reasons like family support and high living costs are mentioned, and disadvantages such as limited career opportunities are touched upon, the supporting examples tend to be repetitive and underdeveloped, particularly in the third paragraph where the text stumbles over itself explaining business growth. A position is presented, but overall development falls short of Band 6 requirements due to the word count penalty and insufficient elaboration.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response attempts a logical organization, featuring an introduction, body paragraphs for reasons and disadvantages, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. There are noticeable awkward transitions such as 'Intially, many people want to live with their family due to it they prefer...' and referencing issues throughout the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow within paragraphs is disrupted by poor punctuation and run-on structures, such as in the final paragraph starting with 'Conclusion , I believe...'. Overall progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and inadequate linking devices, aligning the text closely with a Band 5 profile.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on simple words like 'grow', 'live', and 'place'. There are several word choice and collocation errors, such as 'living cost is so high every where', 'same towm', and 'benefical'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'support', 'opportunities', and 'drow back', but these are handled with noticeable inaccuracies and spelling errors ('Intially', 'discusss', 'anble', 'towm', 'migh', 'bron', 'benefical', 'drow back'). Communication is occasionally strained due to these lexical limitations, making a Band 5 score appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. The majority of sentences feature basic or faulty complex forms. There are frequent errors in punctuation, spacing, and sentence structure, such as comma splices and missing subject-verb elements ('due to it they prefer', 'migh be they anble to grow because they cannot get chance to grow'). Clauses are often strung together incorrectly without proper subordination or coordination. Although meaning can generally be deciphered, the high density of grammatical and mechanical errors throughout the short text places this firmly at Band 5.
