Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address all parts of the prompt, including reasons, advantages, and disadvantages of living close to where one was born. However, the ideas are severely underdeveloped, repetitive, and lack clear support or examples. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 178 words compared to the minimum requirement of 250 words. This shortfall directly impacts the extent to which the topic can be explored, leading to a restricted development of ideas. Because the response addresses the prompt only partially and remains well under the word limit, it falls under the Band 4 descriptors for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks clear logical organisation and paragraphing. The response is presented in a fragmented, almost continuous block with erratic line spacing, and there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, making it difficult to follow the transition between reasons, advantages, and disadvantages. Phrases such as 'For example' and 'The conclusion is that' are misused or disconnected from the actual content. Referencing is frequently unclear, as seen in expressions like 'when they are not close.they are facing many difficulties.' Consequently, the overall arrangement is incoherent, reflecting the characteristics of Band 4.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used throughout the essay is basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted. The student continually relies on simple words and phrases such as 'living close', 'many facilities', and 'felling happy'. There are also frequent word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'Light,Water and house' used to describe problems, and 'transports problems like rikshaw, cars and buses are easily provide'. Spelling errors and incorrect word forms, such as 'felling' instead of 'feeling' and 'pleasesnt', further strain the reader and obscure meaning. The lexical range is minimal and repetitive, aligning closely with Band 4 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or attempt complex structures that are fundamentally flawed and ungrammatical, such as 'The topic illustrates people spent most of their lives living close where they were born.' There are constant errors in tense agreement, article usage, punctuation, and sentence boundaries (e.g., missing spaces after periods, sentence fragments like 'And the disadvantages of living to where they were born are'). These errors are frequent and often distort the intended meaning, causing significant difficulty for the reader. This performance is indicative of Band 4.
