Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many individuals spend mostly of their lifetime living close to where they were raised. There are certain reasons behind this statement, i think that the merits are plentiful than demerits that will be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs.

Commencing with the main reason which justifies that why people spend mostly their lives where they was born. The most prominent one is that, individuals where they were born that place become a part of their life. They know everything their from childhood their friends from that place. They living in the same house from childhood, they living with their family they visiting the same places from childhood those places became their favourite and they do not want to go far from that places and then they find a job their and spend their life at that place where they were born.

However, the disadvantages are many people do not want to go anyother place from the place where they were born but that thing let not growth to their life. Because nowadays many jobs and studies are not their where people mostly born like most people from small towns or small cities but that areas are not good for study and work.

In conclusion, although in my opinion advantages are more people live their where born in that place they can happily lives with their family with their loved ones. Living at that place where you were born is the best thing. Because people have many memories at there,.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying reasons for living in one's birthplace and discussing both advantages and disadvantages, though the ideas remain limited and under-developed. Furthermore, the length requirement was not met, as the text contains 248 words, falling slightly short of the 250-word minimum. The writer's position is somewhat unclear due to repetitive statements and a lack of extended supporting arguments. To move to a higher band, the student must ensure the word count requirement is fulfilled and fully develop each of their arguments with relevant examples and clearer elaboration rather than simply restating the same points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic level of organisation with attempts to separate ideas into paragraphs, such as 'Commencing with the main reason' and 'However, the disadvantages are'. However, the response lacks a clear overall progression, and cohesive devices are frequently repetitive, mechanical, or used inaccurately, such as relying heavily on 'from childhood' and 'at that place'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it hard to follow the flow of ideas. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive ties, ensure logical progression between paragraphs, and avoid circular phrasing that disrupts the overall structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic and repetitive expressions like 'spend mostly of their lifetime' and 'from childhood'. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'demerits' being contrasted awkwardly with 'plentiful' instead of 'few', and awkward word choices and phrasing throughout, including 'anyother place' and 'where people mostly born'. These lexical inaccuracies occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the student should expand their vocabulary range, learn proper word collocations, and practice using less common lexical items with greater precision and correct spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a very limited range of structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues in 'where they was born', missing auxiliary verbs in 'they living in the same house', and incorrect prepositional usage and tense control. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and impede comprehension in places. To reach a higher band, the student must focus on foundational grammar rules, including correct tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and building structurally sound complex sentences with accurate punctuation.
