Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing reasons for living near one's birthplace, as well as outlining both advantages and disadvantages. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. For example, while the reasons and the advantage of community support are mentioned, points like emotional values and boredom are left relatively concise and could have been extended with deeper explanations or more robust examples. The position is clear throughout, and the main tenets of the prompt are covered adequately, though a greater depth of exploration for each point would be required to push the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and each body paragraph generally focuses on a distinct sub-topic. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately to separate reasons, advantages, and disadvantages. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or repetitive, particularly in the transitions between ideas, such as relying heavily on formulaic openings like 'One of the most important reason' and 'Another significant benefit'. Referencing is generally functional, but the flow between sentences could be smoother with more varied cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'belongingness', 'psychological', and 'thrilling experience'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as writing 'there birth places' instead of 'their birthplaces', 'demrits' instead of 'demerits', 'physchological', and 'comminty'. Additionally, the phrase 'discussed in this letter' is inaccurate as the task requires an essay rather than a letter. These inaccuracies do not entirely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating structures like relative clauses ('individuals who stay close to their hometowns') and conditional elements. There are, however, some grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('One of the most important reason is') and missing articles or prepositions ('spending whole life at one place'). Punctuation is mostly manageable, and while errors occur, they rarely impede overall communication, reflecting a mix of accurate and faulty structures.
