Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing reasons why people live close to their birthplace, alongside some advantages and disadvantages, but the treatment remains limited and under-developed. While the writer mentions ideas such as family support and job opportunities, these points are not sufficiently extended with detailed explanation. For instance, the section outlining advantages and disadvantages relies heavily on simplistic bulleted lists rather than fully formulated, cohesive paragraphs. The position is discernible, but the overall development of ideas remains restricted, keeping the response at a level where parts are covered only partially.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently throughout the essay. Although there is a basic attempt to structure the writing with an introduction and some body sections, the progression of ideas breaks down significantly. The heavy reliance on numbered lists to state advantages and disadvantages disrupts the logical flow of the text. Furthermore, paragraphing is poorly managed, with multiple very short, disjointed sentences and repetitive concluding remarks that fail to tie the arguments together smoothly. Referencing and cohesive devices are inadequate, leading to a lack of clear overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing a limited range adequate only for the most minimal communication. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as "intresting" instead of interesting, "lives" instead of live, and "culculsion" instead of conclusion. The writer attempts some everyday terms related to family and community, but errors in word form and collocation occasionally strain the reader. To improve, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary and pay closer attention to standard spelling and precise word choices.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures with frequent errors. When the writer attempts more complex formulations, they are often faulty, as seen in expressions like "most of people enjoyed thier life" and "lives close to twhere they were born." Frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions are present throughout the text and can cause difficulty for the reader. Improving structural variety and applying closer control over basic grammatical rules will be essential for progress.
