Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowdays, some people prefer to spend most of their lives close to the place where they were born. There are several reason for this choice, and although it offers many benefits, it also has some drawbacks.
There are various reason why people choose to stay in their hometowns. The main reason is that they have strong family ties and emotional connection with their birthplace. They can easily meet their relatives, spend qualtiy time with their loved ones, and receive support during difficult times. Another reason is financial stability. For example, people who work in agriculture or run a family business may prefer to stay in thier hometown necause they already have a stable source of income. Moreover, they are familiar with the local culture, tradition, and lifestyle, which gives them a sense of comfort and belonging. People caan enjoy a strong support system and maintain close realtionships with their family and friends.
However, there are some disadvaantaage as well. The biggest drawback is the limites availability of better job opprtunities and higher education, particularlyt in rural areas. As a result, people may find it difficult to achieve their carrer goals. Furthermore, staying in the same place for too long may limit their exposure to different culture and new experience. Sometimes, people need to step out of their comfort zone to learn new skills and broaden their horizens.
In conclusion, people ofteen remain close to their birthplace because of family connections, financial security and familtiarity, Although this lifestyle provides comfort and stability, I believe people should consider moving elsewhere if it offers better opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both questions: it gives reasons for staying near one’s birthplace and discusses benefits and drawbacks. Family ties, emotional attachment, financial stability and familiarity are relevant reasons, while limited employment and education options and reduced exposure to new experiences are appropriate disadvantages. The conclusion also gives a clear view that moving may be worthwhile for growth. Some ideas, however, are more fully explained than others: family support is illustrated with meeting relatives and receiving help, whereas the point about familiarity is mostly asserted. The advantages are also implied rather than clearly developed as a distinct part of the discussion. To strengthen the response, explain more directly how these benefits affect people’s lives and support each main point with a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to reasons, disadvantages and a conclusion. Paragraphs have identifiable purposes, and linking expressions such as “Another reason,” “Moreover,” “However” and “As a result” help the reader follow the progression. The conclusion returns to the main reasons and contrasts comfort with opportunities for growth. Some cohesion is less controlled: “strong support system” repeats the earlier point about relatives and support, and the sentence beginning “People can enjoy” does not add a clearly new idea. The transition from reasons to advantages could also be made more explicit. Grouping related points more tightly and using references such as “This familiarity” would make connections smoother and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses a relevant range of vocabulary, including “family ties,” “financial stability,” “sense of comfort and belonging,” “job opportunities” and “broaden their horizons.” These phrases communicate the main ideas and show some ability to use topic-appropriate language. However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “Nowdays,” “qualtiy,” “thier,” “caan” and “horizens,” and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “various reason,” “the limites availability” and “different culture.” These slips reduce precision and make the vocabulary less controlled, even though the meaning is generally clear. Proofread spelling carefully and check plural forms and collocations; aim for accurate, natural phrasing rather than adding more ambitious vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
There is a useful mix of simple and complex sentence forms. For example, “although it offers many benefits, it also has some drawbacks” and “people who work in agriculture or run a family business may prefer to stay” show attempts to combine clauses and use a relative clause. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors persist. Examples include “There are various reason” and “different culture,” where plural forms are needed, and the final sentence has an inappropriate capital after the comma in “familiarity, Although.” The sentence “The biggest drawback is the limites availability…” also has a faulty grammatical form, though the spelling issue itself belongs under vocabulary. Review agreement, plurals and punctuation, and check each sentence for accurate clause boundaries.
