Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify a relevant reason for staying near one’s birthplace: familiarity with friends and neighbours, and feeling uncomfortable or unable to trust people in a new place. You also begin to address advantages by mentioning new places and people. However, the response only minimally answers the full task: the reasons are difficult to follow, the advantages are not explained, and the disadvantages section stops mid-sentence. There is no developed comparison or supporting example. The response is also 135 words below the required minimum, which leaves too little space to explain the ideas. To improve, answer both questions directly, develop at least one reason and one advantage and disadvantage, and support each with a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, including separate labels for “Advantages” and “Disadvantages,” and the opening signals a reason before moving to benefits. However, the ideas within the opening are crowded together, and the links between them are unclear; for example, the shift from familiar friends to moving to another city is not clearly signposted. The advantages section contains only one brief point, while the disadvantages section is unfinished, so there is no clear progression through the whole response. Use separate paragraphs for reasons, advantages, and disadvantages, and connect each point with simple, accurate transitions such as “One reason is…” and “On the other hand…”.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
You use a small set of relevant words connected with the topic, including “friends,” “new place,” “new people,” and “different.” These help communicate the general ideas, but the vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and several spelling or word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand. For instance, “neberes” appears to mean “neighbours,” “aqward” means “awkward,” and “trest” may mean “trust.” The phrase “spend time in their living” is also unclear. Build a more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling; useful alternatives include “remain in their hometown,” “familiar community,” and “feel isolated in an unfamiliar place.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response attempts to express reasons and consequences using connected clauses, such as “because he spend a long time in his life” and “because stay this people in this side.” However, sentence structures are very limited, and frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, pronouns, and sentence boundaries often obscure the intended meaning. For example, “people… he spend” does not maintain subject agreement, while “you have live” needs a different verb form. The final disadvantage sentence is incomplete. Practise building clear simple sentences first, checking that each has a subject and a correctly formed verb, then combine ideas with “because” or “although.”
